"Miracle Church" Soon to Make History Again 56 years ago, the Portsmouth Seventh-day Adventist Church at 2145-27th Street made history. Utilizing no machinery, all volunteer labor, and the help of a little dynamite, they blasted through the 100% shale hill and broke ground for the present church which has served God and the community faithfully since that time. When the church opened it's doors, The Portsmouth Daily Times dubbed it the "Miracle Church". It was erected debt-free, in one year, with only a five member volunteer crew by day and a seven member crew by night. The first services were held in the new location on August 6, 1954. Since that time we have, and continue to:
built in a year, the volunteers, known as Maranatha (www.maranatha.com) will work side by side with members of the church and community (we invite you to join us!) to complete this miracle in 12 days! While the actual build will occur during that time, we have removed the awning and handicapped access ramp to excavate the site, laying the footer, etc. in preparation for the summer build. We Value You, Our Neighbors and Friends, and have given great thought to not only honoring our ancestors and God, with a quality addition, but also adding property value to our beautiful neighborhood, one that Cindy and I share with our home just 3 doors up from the present church. We hope you can feel the enthusiasm and will accept the invitation to be a part of Operation Build in whatever way you choose, even if it's with just a honk and a wave! We also hope you will come by the build site during that time, see the miracle in action, and allow us to introduce you to the team so they can personally offer their thanks. With Our Thanks, Pastor Ken and Cindy Ferguson
